The Inverse First-passage Problem and Optimal Stopping
نویسنده
چکیده
Given a survival distribution on the positive half-axis and a Brownian motion, a solution of the inverse first-passage problem consists of a boundary so that the first passage time over the boundary has the given distribution. We show that the solution of the inverse firstpassage problem coincides with the solution of a related optimal stopping problem. Consequently, methods from optimal stopping theory may be applied in the study of the inverse first-passage problem. We illustrate this with a study of the associated integral equation for the boundary.

متن کاملOptimal Stopping Policy for Multivariate Sequences a Generalized Best Choice Problem
In the classical versions of “Best Choice Problem”, the sequence of offers is a random sample from a single known distribution. We present an extension of this problem in which the sequential offers are random variables but from multiple independent distributions. Each distribution function represents a class of investment or offers. Offers appear without any specified order. The objective is...
متن کاملConstructing Time-Homogeneous Generalised Diffusions Consistent with Optimal Stopping Values
Consider a set of discounted optimal stopping problems for a one-parameter family of objective functions and a fixed diffusion process, started at a fixed point. A standard problem in stochastic control/optimal stopping is to solve for the problem value in this setting. In this article we consider an inverse problem; given the set of problem values for a family of objective functions, we aim to...
متن کاملOptimal Control for Descriptor Systems: Tracking Problem (RESEARCH NOTE)
Singular systems have been studied extensively during the last two decades due Abstract to their many practical applications. Such systems possess numerous properties not shared by the well-known state variable systems. This paper considers the linear tracking problem for the continuous-time singular systems. The Hamilton-Jacobi theory is used in order to compute the optimal control and associa...
